It’s May and you know what that means…SPRING MIGRATION!! Join us Saturday, May 15th at Evergreen Cemetery. This 239 acre cemetery, is a well known hotspot for spring migrants with it combined with old growth pine and oak, vegetation, and ponds. It has been host to nesting Great Horned Owls and the site of a few rarities including a Hooded Warbler, Kentucky Warbler, and Least Bittern in recent years.
We will meet by the ponds and explore the hotspots including the pond trail, brush pile, powerline cut and junk pond.
LOGISTICS: COVID-19 and because maintaining appropriate social distancing can be challenging on trails, face coverings/masks will be required. If you do not have a mask, MYBC will have extras. We will be following the state COVID-19 safety and social distancing policies. Please bring Binoculars (MYBE has extras if you need them), Water, Insect Repellant, Sunscreen, Snacks, Bag Lunch, Weather-Appropriate Clothes (please note that this trip will include good amount of walking, some through areas which can be wet and/or muddy). Please be mindful that ticks are prevalent this year and do a tick check after this outing.
MEETUP and PICKUP: We will meet at 7:30AM the Evergreen Cemetery Ponds. Pick up will be in the same location at 12:30PM.
DIRECTIONS: Once at 672 Stevens Ave, enter the cemetery through the main gate. Take the first right onto Western Ave and follow this until you reach the ponds (see map). We will meet on the trail between the big pond and the smaller ponds.
