Florida Lake Park

We are off to Florida Lake Park which--under the right conditions--can yield a large amount of warblers and other migrating birds.  Florida Lake is 167 acre preserve with a small lake and surrounding uplands. Several trails wind through differing habitats, including emergent marsh, shrub swamp, forested wetland, and wooded upland.

We will bird around the lake and trails looking for early warblers, swallows, and migrating ducks.

LOGISTICS: Due to COVID-19 restrictions, face coverings/masks will be required. If you do not have a mask, MYBC will have extras. We will be following the state COVID-19 safety and social distancing policies. Please bring Binoculars (MYBE has extras if you need them), Water, Snacks, Bag Lunch, Weather-Appropriate Clothes (please note that this trip will include good amount of walking, some through areas which can be very wet and/or muddy). Please also note that while still early in the season ticks have been detected and this area is well known for them. Please be mindful of this and perform a tick check after this outing.

MEETUP and PICKUP: We will meet at 8AM the Florida Lake parking area off of Rte 125. Pick up will be in the same location at 1PM.

DIRECTIONS: Florida Lake Park is located off Rte 12 in Freeport. The road to the parking area is near 82 Wardtown Rd, Freeport, ME. You will see a small sign for Florida Lake Park at the head of the road. Follow this to the parking area at the end (the road is a dead end, ending at the parking area and trailhead).
