It’s time for our yearly coastal birding trip! While in the past we have traced one of the Greater Portland CBC routes, this year (due to pandemic reasons) were going to go for a more centralized location that we can hit target areas by walking. Biddeford Pool is the prime location for this! With four hotspots located within a couple of miles of one another this should be a very productive trip!
Here you can be certain to see numerous species of sea ducks (Long-tailed Duck, scoters, etc.) along with numerous “typical” winter species (e.g. Northern Mockingbird, American Tree Sparrow) along with a wide variety of raptors (Snowy Owl, Northern Harrier, Red-tailed Hawk, accipiters, and MAYBE a Rough-legged Hawk). This is also the location for a bunch of rarities, most notably the first appearance of the Great Black-Hawk in 2018. So if we keep our eyes peeled, we may find something exciting!
Biddeford Pool is one of the largest tide pools in the world, and as such it brings in a TON of wildlife. Please join us for this awesome outing!
