MYBC is off do to some citizen science! Our January event is to partake in the 121st annual Christmas Bird Count (CBC). To keep everyone safe and socially distant, MYBC will cover the Old Orchard Beach area of Section 1 on foot. This will allow parents to drop off and pickup at the same location.
The CBC is the longest citizen science project in the history of this country, and we are excited to get to share this experience with the Maine Young Birders Club!
The compilation at the church in Cape Porpoise has been cancelled. Team captains will submit the data virtually and the results will be shared once everything is tallied.
LOGISTICS: Dress in layers and wear comfortable walking shoes (note it has been SUPER cold in past years so please come prepared as we will be outside the entire time) . Bring the following: filled water bottle, a bagged lunch and snacks, sunblock, a hat, sunglasses, binoculars, camera (optional), scope (if you have one), notebook & field guide (optional), and a backpack in which you'll keep all your stuff. If you do not have binoculars, MYBC will provide you with a pair. Masks will be required the entire trip in keeping with Maine’s mask mandate.
MEET UP and PICK UP: We will meet at 7AM at the parking lot by the Palace Playland Ferris Wheel at Old Orchard Beach. Pick up will be in this same spot at 12:00PM.
CARPOOLING: We are not able to offer carpooling at this time.
